Introduction
The training mission in India, 23 February – 13 March 2009, was the fifth of the sustained trainings and was delivered as a joint initiative with Government of India (GOI) Ministry of Agriculture’s Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (DADF). The technical content of the training workshops was delivered by three international experts in tandem with a host team of national experts.

Training Location and Dates
The technical assistance mission consisted of three training workshops of five days each. The training workshops were held in Kolkata (targeting North Eastern states), Bangalore (South and Central states) and Chandigarh (Northern states). The training courses will be held:

  • February 23 – 27, 2009 in Kolkata
  • March 2 - 6, 2009 in Bangalore
  • March 9 - 13, 2009 in Chandigarh

Participants
In total 74 participants attended the training workshops with 1-2 participants from each state. Participants all held positions of Director, Deputy Director, Commissioner, Officer in Charge and Veterinary Surgeon. The beneficiaries were primarily in strong positions for dissemination and had a strong baseline knowledge and understanding of HPAI.

Experts
The technical trainings were delivered by Mr. Harm Kiezebrink, Dr. Carol Cardona, and Dr. Poul Henrik Jørgensen.
